I was inspired to paint the contrast of the softly feathered white egret perched upon an old tree stump, with the gorgeous backdrop of soft blue sky and water of the estuary on a morning walk. I loved how the morning sun lit up the graceful waterbirds' white feathers, revealing many more colours than just pure white. Rich textures were achieved in the painting by applying oil paints in thick luscious layers with a palette knife. The egret is a symbol of Diversity, Adaptation, and Balance and has a close-knit relationship with the three elements of Water, Air, and Earth. This peaceful scene is often observed along the Peel Harvey Estuary shoreline.
